Aaliyah's Story

My passion is acting. My passion started when I watched the beginning of my all time favorite movie series, High School Musical. Although childish, to me it was inspiring to see a movie that showed positive events in high school. With the use of pathos, director Kenny Ortega used music, art, and dance to make the movie successful at reaching out to viewers like me. Even up to this day, I still know the lines from the lead lover's breakup scene. Another time my passion was sparked was in 2016 and 2017 when my middle school put on ''Little Shop of Horrors" and "The Wiz". Being the lead in "The Wiz" was a game changer for me. While I was on that stage acting as another person, it was the first time I felt like my true self. Acting lets me think out of the box and lets me explore new interests.

A Note from Ms. Curry, Aaliyah's Teacher

Aaliyah is a good candidate for 92Y "Broadway, Here I Come!" Summer Vocal Institute because she is passionate about acting and has shown extreme dedication and commitment to her passions. Aaliyah works hard at all tasks, big or small, and always strives for the best. She will extremely benefit from this program because she has no acting or theatre opportunities at our high school. Being exposed to musical theatre over the summer will provide her an avenue to pursue her passion during her high school years.
