Sharon's Story

My passion is investigative law.

This became my passion in my freshman year of high school. In history class, we were expected to conduct trials for the different historical time periods we learned about. Looking for weaknesses in the other groups' defenses and presenting my case was fun. I realized then that I might have found the field of work that I was passionate about and wanted to be active in. Becoming an investigative lawyer has since then become my goal.

Attending NSLC Forensic Science will help me develop my passion for investigative law by giving me more insight into the field. The program would allow me to get hands-on experience and talk to people who are in the line of work I would like to pursue. This experience would greatly benefit me on the road to achieving my goals.

A Note from Ms. Kelly, Sharon's Teacher

"It is hard for me to think of a time when Sharon does not display passion, persistence and motivation. She approaches everything: schoolwork, revisions, creative projects, major graduation requirements, team practice, writing and critical thinking with focused intensity. She is hungry to learn and grow, and when she doesn't do her best she digs in harder and finds a way to make it better.

Sharon deserves a summer experience at NSLC Forensic Science, and she will bring all of the positive energy and intellectual drive necessary to take full advantage of the program. I have been teaching for eighteen years and Sharon is a rare breed of student. Without a doubt, Sharon would be a most valuable member of the NSLC Forensic Science program."

Amazing 10 days at AU for Forensic science

With your help I was able to attend one of the best programs that I've been to. I met a lot of amazing people that I would not have had the chance to meet otherwise; all of us came together in our mutual interest for forensics and crime scene investigation on the campus of the American University. We learned about different methods of investigating a crime scene and how to process evidence, then we applied these methods to our groups' assigned crime scene to find out what happened and who did it. Besides learning about things like blood spatter analysis, we also had valuable workshops on leadership skills, public speaking, and personality types. These workshops helped me become a more confident individual and showed me that I'm not the only one going through struggles, and that they're are many people out there who go through similar struggles to mine. It was an eye opening experience and one that I value very much. Thank you so very much for enabling me to attend the National Student Leadership Conference on Forensic Science, I greatly appreciate it and words can not express how grateful I am.

Excited to learn about CSI at the American University

I'm very excited to be able to attend the Forensic Science program at the American University! I can't wait to learn about the different methods utilized to investigate and solve a crime. I chose this program because I'm a huge fan of Criminal Minds, and Chemistry class piqued my interest in forensic science. This program will help me gain more insight into what criminal justice branch I want to be involved in and what my strengths and weaknesses are when working closely with a group of people. Throughout this program, I expect that I will learn a lot about myself because I have never been enrolled in a program where I wasn't close to home and where none of my other friends were enrolled with me. I'm really looking forward to meeting the individuals with whom I will be spending the majority of my time with for the duration of the program and talking to the people who are actually active in this line of work. Also, I'm really excited to investigate a simulated crime scene because what could possibly be cooler than that? I can't thank the people who supported me in this endeavor enough because without you this would not have been possible. So, I thank you so much again!
