Alicia's Story

My passion is science.

I have always found joy in the feeling of helping others or making a difference in my community. When I get older, I hope to become a pathologist. If I could just save at least one life, I will be happy. I have grown up seeing suffering and atrocity within my community and hope to one day end that. I discovered this passion in middle school, when doing a project on stem-cell research. It fascinated me how such small organisms could be the answer to possibly healing diseases that impact the world. I have always had a need to want to assist others and what better way than researching cures to diseases? I have always enjoyed science in general because I find that I can actually relate to the study of living organisms.

The Johns Hopkins Discover Hopkins program will help me achieve my passion because I will be able to get practical experience in what the medical field is like. Since my future career path mainly involves research, this program will give me exposure to research techniques and procedure, as well as scientific experimentation. In addition to these benefits, the university I aspire to attend is in fact Johns Hopkins. Attending this program would allow me the chance to gain familiarity with the campus, faculty, and staff, which could allow me to determine if this university would be the right fit for me.
