Jonathan's Story

My passion is football.

I came across my passion for football in the fall of my freshman year, it was the second to last game before ours season was over. The game before the starting outside linebacker ( my position ) had sprained his ankle. He would be out for one game. That week me and a sophomore on my team were fighting for the starting spot. The team that we were going to face had the number one running back in the state for yardage. The game before he had 10 touchdowns and over 400 rushing yards. I ended up starting. When I first walked on the field it was like I was in a stage and the spotlight was on me. This is when I realized how much I loved football and I want it to take me to the next stage of my life .

A Note from Ms. Corcoran, Jonathan's Mentor

Jonathan has had limited opportunities to explore his talents in football given limited resources available to him, but also limited opportunities within the community. I have watched Jonathan grow into the young man he is today while playing any sport that he could in order to increase his athletic ability in hopes that he could one day focus solely on football and training for football. What sets Jonathan ahead of others is evident in a statement he makes in his application, "Passion is never enough to succeed. In order to excel, I need to develop skills to match my talent." He is a talented individual who is not only driven to succeed, but also aware of the areas in which he needs to increase his skill deficits on the field and in the classroom. This level of self-awareness and insight is rarely found in an individual of his age.

Thank you for the experience

I would like all of you for helping me attend us sports contact camps. I learned a lot there that will help me this season, and I made friends that I will have for life. I can't wait to find other opportunities.
