WILMER's Story

My passion is running.

My passion started many years ago. I came to U.S when I was 15 with my dad. I started attending Brien McMahon high school about a week after arriving in the country. During the fist few months, I struggled like many immigrants do with the language barrier. However, when I was presented with the opportunity to join the track & field team I quickly became excited about the opportunity.

One year later, I am now the captain of my high school's indoor track team this experience has allowed me to not only practice a sport that I'm passionate about, but also it has helped me learn the language, make new friends, as well as develop skills such as discipline and hard work.

Wilmer is an ELL student from Honduras that studies at Brien McMahon High School. Over the summer time, students from that school, along with the school I teach at, Norwalk High School, voluntarily come to summer school to learn more English. During the summer time, Wilmer showed an extreme passion on learning English to advance himself in the workforce. I always felt that he applied himself more than any other student I've had in my career. He always asked for help and always was attentive. He's a passionate and charismatic student that is going to be very successful with the correct resources.

"Success Occurs When Opportunity Meets Preparation"

Hi everyone!

Thank you so much for helping me fund a dream of mine. I am very excited to attend US Sports Nike Cross Country Camp this summer.

I have been busy preparing for this opportunity as best I can. Over the past few weeks, I have been putting extra miles in on the road. Lately I have been waking up early before school to run as well to improve my fitness. Additionally, I am going to the gym to get stronger.

My goal is to use this camp as a tool for breaking my personal record in the 5k event during Brien McMahon's Cross Country season in the fall. I hope this camp will push me further to learn new skills and techniques in this sport, which I truly love.
