My passion is psychology.
Life is complicated, we are a complicated species, and there are many wonders not yet discovered. There are far more interesting things happening in our minds that impact our behavior and decisions than we can imagine. I've always been curious about how we could change certain things in the world starting with each individual mind. My mind was blown when I found there was an actual career for this.
I think it's obvious how I will develop my passion by attending the psychology program at Summer Institutes at Saint Joseph's College. I want to be in the psychology field when I'm older, and this will be a great head start.
"Melanie is an extremely dedicated student who consistently pushes herself and her classmates to be more complete learners. Melanie’s ability to articulate her thinking and ask questions that further a discussion have had an incredible impact on our 9th grade classrooms. Mature beyond her years, Melanie is already on the path towards a successful future and Summer Institutes at Saint Joseph's College is another step in that direction. Melanie’s passion revolves around understanding the world around her, both from an individual and societal point of view. Melanie's curiosity about the way in which the human mind works and evolves is representative of Melanie’s drive as a learner. She has never been satisfied with a surface level understanding and has always pushed deeper and deeper into a real, concrete understanding of material. She throws herself fully into everything that she studies, and this opportunity will be no different."
I would have never gone to this summer program without the help of all the people who donated. You could have done a billion other things with your money, but you decided to spend it on me instead. I think that was very generous, and that's why I wanted to thank everyone.
This summer was awesome, and I learned a ton of new things. The class I took really gave me a picture of what studying psychology in college would be like. I definitely know that psychology is one thing I want to learn about in college because of this program.
In class we read articles, had discussions, watched videos, took quizzes, and even conducted an experiment that we presented to the rest of the program.
Everyone was really nice, smart, and cool to hang out with. It was a lot of fun being around other kids my age who were into the same things I'm into. The classes went a lot smoother and faster than I'm used to because everyone really wanted to learn and be engaged in the conversation.
Like I said before, I'm really thankful for everyone's support and for helping me have an awesome summer!
I think I have said this at least a hundred times, but thank very much for donating to send me to Saint Joseph's. Words like nervous or excited would not begin to sum up how I feel. I am not sure what this summer is going to be like after attending this program. This is the summer when I could really get a taste of what psychology is like. Although I will only be there for a short amount of time, I will make the best of my experience. What ever happens is okay with me because the world is my classroom, and I've got a long way to go.
I suspected that you were a special young lady. I hope you have valuable experiences this summer!
You're amazing! I'm excited for you!
