Lance's Story

My passion is cooking.

I got introduced to this passion because of my older brother. One day, he started cooking from scratch and he invited me to help him cook dinner. That day, my whole perspective on cooking changed. I realized it was a way for me to express my creativity and to enjoy my family time. Although I am still new to cooking, every time I help my family and cook with them, I want to try something new.

Since I am new to cooking, attending ICC Culinary Cooking Camp for Teens will help me broaden my knowledge in the culinary world. It is also a way for me to learn about more cuisines. By learning about more cuisines I will have the ability to grow as a cook and go outside my comfort zone in order to create dishes my family, friends and I would love to eat.

A Note from Ms. Baumert, Lance's Teacher

"I believe Lance will benefit from ICC Culinary Cooking Camp for Teens because he will have the ability to travel through food, travel not being something that is available to him at the moment. Lance has also said that his cooking has brought his family together and I believe that if Lance is given this opportunity he will be able to extend that love of community to his peers in the program."

ICC Culinary Cooking Camp for Teens

I would like to thank my donors once again for giving me the opportunity to attend the ICC Culinary Camp for Teens this summer. It was an amazing experience because everyone there was really polite and supportive. The dishes we made were really exquisite and delicious. And yes, some dishes were more challenging to make than others but that's exactly what I was looking for from this program. Overall, the program was extremely fun and I would fully recommend going.
Sincerely,
Lance Nava

On the second day of the program we made Italian Soki, which we made with ingredients that were made individually.

We made crêpes on the third day of the program which had orange slices and an orange syrup on top.
