Lizett's Story

My passion is discovery.

I've been interested in law ever since my older brother started getting into problems with the police. When I was younger, I would say that I wanted to work with the police system to make our community better. I wanted to try fixing the problems, not only in my community, but all over the world. Criminal justice was something I've been dreaming about doing ever since I was young.

By attending Saint Rose Pre-College Criminal Justice and Forensics, my passion will really develop. This program will give me a chance to experience what it's like to be part of the criminal justice system. If I am able to attend, then these will be my first steps towards becoming the kind of person I want to be in the future.

A Note from Ms. Ferguson, Lizett's Counselor

"Attending Saint Rose Pre-College Criminal Justice and Forensics will give Lizett a chance to explore something she loves with the support and guidance of people who know and understand the topic. She will get a chance to see first hand the steps it will take to reach her goals. The world that she comes from has really had a positive impact on her by making her focused and ready to be part of something much bigger. I am so excited for Lizett to have the opportunity to finally be able to put her passion for this field to the test."

My summer at Saint Rose Pre college Experience

My summer at Albany, New York was an amazing experience that I won't ever forget. I was able to stay at a small college named Saint Rose, and I was getting Criminal Justice classes there. I met amazing people from different states, and it was nice getting to know many of them. I became really close friends with my roommate, and many others. My professors were great! They were very kind, and were willing to answer any questions that you had. They were also very inspiring, and they were excited to teach us what they knew. That was what I loved the most. With the criminal justice program, we were able to go to different field trips and learn more. We visited the NY Police Department, and Forensic Labs. We had awesome guest speakers who shared their stories, and it was nice learning more about the specific field that I'm interested in. We also did work in the lab, and learned things there. Apart from the criminal justice program, we did other activities. Every night, after everyone's class was over, the counselors had something ready for us. We went go to the movies, to a beautiful lake, to watch a play, to small concert, and to really good restaurants. I learned a lot from my program even though I was just there for 2 weeks. I now know what specific field I want to be part of when I'm older, and I understand the basics of criminal justice. Overall, I really enjoyed leaving California for two weeks, to go learn in New York. I honestly wish it was for a longer period of time. I would recommend it to students that is interested in Criminal Justice!

Excited for Criminal Justice Program

This school year has been one of the most exciting and difficult years so far, but I was able to get straight A's my whole sophomore year. I know what I want in life, and I know the things I want to achieve.

Going to the Criminal Justice program in New York is going to get me a step closer to what I want to become. I've never been this excited to get away from home, and I believe that it will be an amazing experience. I'm going to be able to learn even more things about myself, and I will make many new friends. I'm going to try to not be shy, and get myself out there. I think the reason why I'm so excited is because I've always been interested in Criminal Justice, and now I'm getting the chance to learn more about it. This is going to be my first time getting information from a professional, and I think it will be life changing. The program will really help me know if I really want to do that when I'm older, and help me understand what I have to do in order to get there. It's an incredible opportunity, and I'm so thankful for it.
