My passion is expression through different styles of art.
When I was in elementary school, art block was my favorite time of the day. I enjoyed covering every corner of my page with color and staining my hands with paint. In high school, I signed up for an advanced art class where the primary focus was studying and creating fine arts. Some of the styles we focused on included sculptures, paintings, stencils, and working with fabrics. Through exploring different art styles, I realized that I was very passionate about finding subtle ways to express myself through my artwork.
Attending the San Francisco Art Institute PreCollege Program will help me develop my passion for expressing myself through different styles of art by allowing me to explore a diverse set of departments relating to art. Since I plan on pursuing a profession that is related to art, I am eager to discover the many ways art impacts our lives.
"Cynthia is an exceptional student. She is able to glean information, both explicit and inferential, very quickly. Her ability to connect what she has learned in the classroom to what is happening in our world is phenomenal and beyond her years. What this opportunity would provide her is with is a chance to develop her artistic interests and abilities. Our school is VERY small and the opportunities to access professional artists and a diversity of media is limited. Cynthia's passion for art will grow exponentially with access to this program."
I am grateful of this amazing opportunity to spend a summer at San Francisco Art Institute. I enjoyed meeting people from all over the world! I met students from the islands near Spain, an Instagram famous artist from the Philippines, and some very talented movie makers! I had amazing teachers who opened my mind to be able to think more creatively about art. I also met an art therapist who gave me advice on what to do in college in order to be successful. I also got to create art with materials I've never owned! I've always wanted to have my own acrylic paints but I was always too shy to ask my parents for some. With my acrylic paints, I was able to paint art about our world and about myself. I also got a nice view of San Francisco and passed Lombard street on my walk to school. I passed my City Lights bookstore and I wish I could stay in there! Thank you for making this summer an amazing one!
The day is getting closer and closer, which is even more nerve wracking than answering the phone call from the director of program, which happened a few weeks ago. I'm excited to meet new people. I know there will be a diverse culture of creative minds and I am anxious to learn about them and their process. I'm excited to see their style of art and try new things outside of my comfort zone. I know this experience will be life changing!
