Kaitlyn's Story

My passion is drawing. I knew I had a passion for drawing when I realized that it allowed me to tell a story without words. Everything around me inspires me to draw, even down to the paper I use and the pens that help me trace the outlines of my characters. I can remember drawing from as young as 2nd grade, where I remember being so happy to color with a sparkly pencil for the shine on a Pilgrim's shoes for Thanksgiving. I always wanted to be one of those authors that not only wrote their own book but also drew them.

Going to Japan through Experiment in International Living will help me grow as an artist and open up a possible chance to have it as a career field. I feel that through this experience I will be more experienced in how to be a leader. Going to Japan will give me that first-hand experience to the types of art they use and maybe will allow for me to learn their techniques that I can apply to my own art.

A Note from Mrs. Morris, Kaitlyn's Mentor

Kaitlyn is an ideal candidate for the Experiment in International Living because of her passion for exploring new cultures. She is apt at building community with her peers and she is a quiet, but powerful young leader. She loves to learn and meet new people and she is open-minded. Kaitlyn has a great understanding of what it means to be a global citizen! I believe Kaitlyn would benefit from this program in having the opportunity to learn about art in a different part of the world. She would also benefit from the experience of being abroad as she hopes to continue to exploring art through different cultures. Kaitlyn is truly passionate about art, animation and exploring new cultures.
