Felix's Story

My passion is forensic science.

I discovered my passion for forensic science when I started watching television shows centered on crime. I found it so interesting how one person, from just taking a few samples of different materials, could discover so much information that can lead to the conviction of a criminal. Forensic science allows a person to make a difference, a bigger difference than most realize. Often, the people that do the arresting are applauded, but many don’t realize that there are others who are equally as important at making a difference. Forensic science, in my opinion, is the most interesting and appealing form of science. Forensic science puts both the things I love into one category: law and science. A forensic scientist can make all the difference in catching a criminal and it’s nice to imagine myself making a difference in society.

A Note from Mr. Alleyne, Felix's Counselor

Felix is a very independent and hard working person. I have seen him spend time working through applications to high school and other summer programs completely on his own, only asking for help to proofread his writing. Felix's life experience and his awareness of the world he lives in make him a great candidate for Centenary Summer Scholars. His thoughts on the role of a forensic scientist can play in people's lives demonstrates his serious passion for the subject. Felix's aspirations to one day work for the FBI show his ability to set a goal and seek the tools necessary to reach it.

Summer at Centenary Summer Scholars

My week at Centenary Summer Scholars was an amazing week. I had such a great time, I met so many people from all over the world. One person was from Germany, another from Mexico City, one from Georgia, etc. I made so many new and awesome friends. I loved the experience.

The Forensics class I took was amazing. I learned so many things about blood spatter and how to solve a crime scene, and how to take care of evidence properly. The best part was at the end solving and creating a crime scene. It was so exhilarating. We were also taken on a tour of a police station, which was really cool.
Over all I loved the experience and I hope to do it again some day. My week at Centenary was one of the best weeks ever, it was such a fun experience.

(Me on the left in Adidas Pants) (On right a friend I made) This picture was taken on the first day of Summer Scholars. This was one of the ice breaker activities we did. Goal was to get from one side to the next without touching the cement, only 4 tiles.

Looking forward to Centenary Summer Scholars

I will be going to Centenary Summer Scholars this summer and I am very excited to go there because I will be experiencing Forensic Science first hand. In my school there is a Forensics Course in 12th grade that will help me learn Forensic Science, but this program will truly give me the edge I need to be accepted into a good college. This program will also further develop my chemistry and biology skills which will help me in my day to day school life.
I am looking really forward to working with other students that have the same passion as I do and with adults that can teach me, specifically, what I am most interested in.
Again, thank you for helping me with your donations that are allowing me to have this amazing experience.
