Noran's Story

My passion is broadcast journalism.

Growing up in my middle eastern household meant that politics were inserted into my blood, a key element in my everyday life. I've always believed that public speaking is the key to voice your opinion, and I have opinions about almost everything. Growing up in a such controversial time period has made me appreciate the diversity that politics provides as well as the importance of being able to voice my opinion through journalism.

Through Youth Media Channel, which I created on my own, I have been able to cover important events regarding women empowerment and technology advancement. I was more than honored to meet and interview successful leaders such as Mindy Kaling and Chelsea Clinton.

Syracuse University New House is known to be the best journalism school across the nation. By getting the opportunity to go to Syracuse University Summer Program, I will be able to get the best experience from journalist professionals. I believe that Syracuse University is the place that I've dreamt of. Attending this program will give me the chance to explore all campus and experience student life.

A Note from Ms. Chaves, Noran's Teacher

"Although Noran has had great opportunities, I feel that she's only had an initial impulse to explore her passion. By attending Syracuse University Summer College through Wishbone, Noran will keep developing all the skills necessary to become a successful journalist. She will benefit greatly from the exposure to another challenging environment.

Furthermore, Noran started a program this year to teach the skills that she has gained to other young women. Thus, she will make it her responsibility to share her knowledge with others with similar passions. This passionate, dedicated young journalist will benefit tremendously from every aspect of this program."

You're My Fairy God Mother Who Made My Dream Come True, So Thank You!

In just 2 weeks at Syracuse University, I fell in love with it! I fell in love with the staff, the professors, the college students, the campus itself, and my professors. And all thanks to your warm, and generous heart I was able to have this opportunity. You're probably wondering what I did exactly that got me so in love with the school. Well, I learned every important bit, every piece, every speck of information I needed to become a professional film maker! It might sound impossible, but trust me it was possible! Our professors Mr. Dan and Mr. Que did a great job fitting in all the information that we would learn in a whole semester in just two weeks! I am not going to lie, it was a challenge, but who doesn't love a challenge. We had class very day from 8am to 10:45pm at times but trust me every second of it was worth it! I learned how to use lights (bouncing lights, key light, fill light..etc) pretty fancy huh? Never knew that there is so much you can do with light! Since that was the main skill I was training in, you can call me Queen Light and AD! (I'm just being confident in my skills. I was trained really will I'll tell you that). The most amazing part of the whole course would be that I got a chance to film a movie on a film tape. Technology nowadays is updating every minute, so the fact I got a chance to film using a film tape gave me a chance to get the real experience filmmakers had long before digital. I can honestly go on for days talking about how amazing my experience was, but I won't overwhelm you. I just wanted to Thank You Very Much for you help and support. I can't Thank You enough!
