My passion is pediatrics.
This became my passion because as a child I grew up seeing people in my family suffering from medical problems. At the age of about seven or eight, when I stopped being afraid needles and began to understand what doctors really do, I became fascinated by the profession and how it could help people. I realized how much of an impact a simple check up at the doctor's can make, and I instantly decided that the medical field was where I wanted to be.
By attending Summer Institutes at Saint Joseph's College, I will develop my passion by being able to get hands-on training and lessons about the field. This program will also allow me to learn how to do something that I have always wanted to do. . . help those in need.
"Niasha has proven that she can handle the level of rigor that our school has to offer. It is time for her to spread her wings, challenge herself, and join a college campus community at Summer Institutes at Saint Joseph's College. She is at the stage in her education where she should be pushed outside of her high school comfort zone. I am so proud to have her as my advisee, and I know she will do well at this program."
This summer I had the honor of partaking in a summer institute at St. Josephs College. For two weeks in July, I took part in one psychology class and one forensic science class. The first week, I took the forensics class where I learned so much about the importance of forensic science from solving crimes and putting criminals behind bars. In the forensics class, I learned a variety of things such as creating fake blood, fingerprinting, looking at hair and fibers, footprints, blood splatter and much, much more. It was an amazing experience because it allowed me to understand firsthand the different aspects of a crime scene and how detectives use forensic science as evidence to solve a crime.
In the second week I took the psychology class where I studied the different aspects of the human mind and behavior as well as different disorders. In the psychology class we had the chance of going to the Brooklyn Museum to expand our studies on the human mind. This class allowed me to open my mind and see that many things humans believe about disorders is not always true; there are many, many disorders out there, and the human mind operates in many different ways. Though this experience was mostly educational, it allowed me to bond with people that I didn't know about common topics we all had interest and different opinions on. I am very grateful for the experience I gained from going here.
Thank you to those who donated the money to get me where I am at now. Wishbone has offered me a great opportunity that not many get, and I can't wait to go to Saint Joseph's and gain the knowledge I need to move forward. I appreciate those who have gotten me to where I am now, and I'm so thankful for the generosity of those who helped me to pursue this opportunity.
