My passion is writing.
When I was in the eighth grade, my English teacher, Leah Umansky, helped me realize my love for writing through a curriculum that included books like _The Hobbit_ and _And Then There Were None_. Throughout my high school experience, I learned to use writing as an outlet to express myself and contribute to my school's community. Ms. Umansky also inspired me to join our school's literary magazine and submit my writing. Within the next year, I hope to become the president of the program and be in a position to help other students just like me to awaken their love for writing.
By attending Summer Pre-College at Skidmore, I hope to hone my skills as a writer. The college experience is one that I have been yearning to be a part of and one that will help me enhance my craft. Overall, going to Summer Pre-College at Skidmore would aid me in developing as a writer and preparing me for the rigors of a college curriculum.
"The Summer Pre-College at Skidmore would be an excellent opportunity for Daniel to get a sense of college life and take classes that will not only educate him, but inspire him in his writing and other future pursuits. Daniel is definitely a student who is more easily engaged when he pursues subjects that are in line with his interests. I truly hope that a program like this will be a springboard for Daniel's future academic goals and enhance his opportunities to pursue his dreams."
My experience at Skidmore was amazing. I can give you a regular old thank you letter telling you about how great my experience was, but I want to tell you about the real difference it made to me.
Before I went to Skidmore, I was seriously considering applying to Bard College as my primary school and placing Skidmore as secondary. Skidmore was more than amazing. I scored a B+ in my writing seminar and reinvigorated my tenacity towards writing in school along with my personal work. My religion and cultures course was amazing as well; I was able to reevaluate my own beliefs and create a newfound opinion on how I view the world. Although this may sound like a very cheesy, unrealistic thank you, I can assure you that my experience was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I enjoyed it to it maximum potential.
I spent my free time throughout campus from the art studios to the basketball courts, exploring and utilizing everything I could. I made friends all over campus from professors to high school seniors from NYC just like me. My professors were some of the most interesting people I had ever met; my religion and cultures professor was a 76 year old chaplain who encouraged completely open thinking on a daily basis. The friends I made there are ones I speak to on a daily basis and love going to art exhibits with.

Although I did not get the chance to visit York this year I still got the opportunity to read this year's Genesis - your work is tremendous. I was extremely impressed by both of your pieces, but particularly "Transcendence." You've got your self a voice I think our generation and the world has to hear.
