My passion is medicine.
I want to be a doctor, and my passion is the doctor's actions: bandaging people up, doing CPR. So far, I've taken CPR classes and a college taping class; I loved how they bandaged people up. I also went to a health and science middle school, where I was exposed to some medical professions but not a lot.
I can develop my passions by attending Explo at Yale because I will sign up for classes that have to do with my passion. In the first aid training class, I will be able to take my medical skills to the next level. I will learn how to identify concussions, shock, and choking victims. I will also learn how to set broken bones and how to treat for major bleeding. Having these skills will help me in becoming a doctor and in life in general.
"Mamadou's interests are incredibly broad. He is a science buff, but is also taking the rigorous and exclusive Master Film class this year. The film teacher at our school offers the Master Film course in the Spring for 10 pre-selected students, and Mamadou has displayed a great eye for creating meaningful abstract videos. I cannot wait to see what courses Mamadou selects at Explo at Yale. I am so inspired by his interests and his curiosity for almost anything."
This summer was one of the best summers of my life. It was one of the best because of the program that I went to for three weeks called Explo at Yale. So as you can see I was a residential student. I dormed at Yale University's old campus. At Explo I did so many things that I can't even remember them all.
In the morning, we took classes I took business management, acting and directing, fencing, and plyometrics and speed training. All these classes especially fencing were so much fun because I never did it before and I've always wanted to do it for so long. I learned so much. I learned how to fence, I learned about business plans and how to make your own, I learned what plyometrics are and how to do them correctly, I learned how to improve my getting into character better when I'm acting. I met so many people from the states and all around the world. So in my living group we had so much diversity. We had people that lived on Brazil, Portugal, New York City, China, Argentina, New Jersey, Jamaica, Baltimore, France, United Kingdom, Miami and so much more it would be too long to type. Keep in mind all the places I called was just in my living group and my living group had about 21 kids but there were 850 kids there so there was about 49 countries and 200 countries.
There was a trip every weekend, so on the first Saturday I went to 6 flags with some of my new made friends and on Sunday I went to Brownstone adventure water park. The second Saturday I went white water rafting, which was so much fun everybody has to do it one day. On that Sunday we went to a private section of a beach near Connecticut, which was so fun because it wasn't crowded and we played lots of games in and out the water.
Every night we had a main event that we went to which was really fun. A couple that I can name right now are club night, carnival, trivia night, dance night, movie night, a dance performance on the first night I was there and so much more.
Thank You very much for the people who donated for me. If It wasn't for you I wouldn't met so much people and had all these experiences that I had over there. I am so grateful for what you guys did and will ever be appreciated.
Even though there were so many good programs to choose from over the summer, from the beginning I knew I was going to choose Explo at Yale. I already knew that I had a passion for medicine, but I also wanted a program that let me explore other passions to see if I want to pursue another one instead. That is why I chose a liberal arts program like Explo. The courses that I ultimately chose are business apprenticeship and an actors and directors class. I am looking forward to the actors and directors class very much. This is because I will be directing actors in my class and doing a performance at the end as an actor. I am also looking forward to my fencing workshop; I've always wanted to learn how to fence! I’m also looking forward to experiencing college life and how college really is. I’m alone and free, so I can do what I want whenever I want. That is another thing I'm excited about!
Best of luck on your path to becoming a doctor, Mamadou!
