Denika's Story

My passion is basketball.

For a rather long period of time when I was a child, I lacked confidence. This all changed when I started playing basketball at age eleven, and I figured out that I was really good at it. My confidence soared when I realized that I could excel at something that I really loved.

Basketball changed my life dramatically because it turned a shy, non-talkative girl into someone she always wanted to be. I became a strong willed person who showed independence and wisdom. I learned quickly that goal setting was the key to my success. The confidence that went along with excelling at basketball ultimately spilled into other aspects of my life.

Denika is a perfect fit for the Chelsea Piers Basketball Camp because of her love for the game of basketball, her desire to pursue her passions, and her commitment to becoming the best student athlete that she can possibly be. In regards to the basketball aspect itself, Denika has been a member of the Mott Haven Girls Varsity Basketball Team since her freshman year. She has talent, but she also has the desire to be great; which is why she wants to take advantage of this opportunity to participate in the Chelsea Piers Basketball Camp.

Chelsea Piers Summer Camp

This summer I will be attending the Chelsea Piers Summer Camp. I'm really excited to be able to attend this program. I expect that this program will not only help me see my growth but also help me see what I need to improve on in basketball. My handles as a basketball player might not be the best but with the help of the CPSC I will be able to improve for my upcoming season. I believe that this program will give me even more encouragement in my goal of being a great basketball play.
