Zenab's Story

My passion is writing .

When I was about seven years old, my family and I drove to Disney World during my Spring Break. As a seven year old girl, it didn’t take long for me to become bored with the ride. I started to make up poems about my sister, Habeeba, which went something like, "I am sitting in the back seat, smelling Habeeba's stinky feet." This rhyming game quickly became annoying, so my father bought me a little notebook to write my mini poems in. This moment was my first motivation to start writing, and all through my childhood I wrote poems for fun. As I got into my teen years, my writing was more to express how I was feeling. It became my escape, my hobby, but also my secret. I was, and still am, very wary of sharing my creative work. Nevertheless, I love to write for myself and for my own release.

I will develop my passion for writing through the art to journalism course at NYU Precollege. This will give me a better understanding of what I want to do with my future. I know that I love to write and I love to travel, but I have always feared taking writing on as a career. Additionally, I hope that this program will help me become more confident in sharing my writing with others.
