Sandra's Story

My passion is animals. Ever since I was little I was surrounded by all sorts of animals. I grew up on a farm with sheep in my backyard and was always fascinated with all different types of animals that were common in the North East - like the family of deer that would appear in the early morning, or the flock of turkey that you could hear from miles away. As I grew older, my mom would tell me stories about me bringing baby birds into the house that had fallen from a tree in hopes that one day they would grow up and be able to fly just like the rest of the birds. My love for animals and caring affection towards them has made me want to become a veterinarian.

By attending UConn Pre-College Summer Program, I believe it will not only allow me to gain more knowledge about the veterinary career, but also give me the hands on experience needed to fully commit and know this is the job I will love to do in the future.

Sandra has displayed a strong work ethic and desire to succeed. She has sought advice from the career/college center on college programs, and scholarships. She has played on high school tennis team, maintaining a solid grade point average. Sandra will be the first person in her immediate family to go to college. Attending UConn Pre-College Summer Program would give her exposure to experiences and opportunities that will broaden her knowledge base and provide her with opportunities to help her identify her career goals.

This will be my first time experiencing what it is like to stay at the UConn campus as well as encountering and understanding better the medical field. As the days get closer for me to begin and embark on this trip, I get more and more excited. Thanks for allowing me this opportunity!
