My passion is nursing.
I discovered my passion for nursing when my older sister was diagnosed with Guillain–Barré syndrome. This disease weakened her muscles because of ongoing damage to her immune system. She was in her third trimester of pregnancy with my nephew Tadeo, and was having to fight her own body to survive. She had lost a lot of weight, and she was constantly in the hospital. When she was not in the hospital, my family took on the caregiving responsibilities. On one hand, the experience taught me to value the people in our lives everyday and to not give up hope. And on the other hand, I discovered how I was interested in both the empathy needed and scientific knowledge required to be a good nurse. I wanted to help other people recover and get better, and help those families who are struggling with similar situations.
Attending Envision NYLF Medicine will help me pursue my passion for nursing because it will put me on the path to a career in medicine or health care. It will help me gain valuable hands-on experience that i probably won't be able to experience anywhere else. It will help me gain valuable knowledge that is needed to work in this field, and it will help me get a better understanding of what goals I will need to set for myself to make a career in this industry a reality.
Yaciry has all the skills a student needs when facing difficult challenges as a child. Yaciry never complains about the difficult courses, the amount of homework, or the struggles she faces. Yaciry is a student who pushes herself in a crowd and is focused on her success. I know with Yaciry's passion and determination she will be able to overcome all of the hardships she may face. Yaciry's passion for science and medicine will only continue to grow, so please give her the opportunity to be more self directed by attending the Envision NYLF Medicine summer program.
