Whenever I am learning new something new I feel glad. It sparks something in me and it isn't bad. I'm excited when I discover something I never thought could exist, like having webbed fingers. It's unusual, yet normal for some. When pursuing this I feel happy knowing I can tell my family members that I know something they might not.
I want to attend this program because it'll help me further my experience with psychology and humans. It's a 3-week home away program, and it's inside a college I'm thinking of applying to. Attending EXPLO 360 at Yale will give me the chance to live apart from my mom and give me a sneak peak at how college life will look like.
Mirtha is a determined and motivated individual. She has already shown a personal drive to become a well-rounded student by running for student council. I think an extracurricular program will help build Mirtha's confidence and allow her experiences she can't get in her home town. These experiences will help her become the well-rounded student that colleges are looking for. Furthermore, participating in an extracurricular program will allow Mirtha to meet other motivated students and adults who could help her achieve her dream of going to college.
During the summer, I went to a summer camp called Explo at Yale. I had a really great time, learned a lot, and made great friends. During the week, I went to 2 classes in the morning and 1 workshop in the afternoon. On the weekends, we went on field trips. More like tourist trips; I enjoyed them a lot. On the first weekend, I went to Broadway and it was great for my first time. The second week, I went to Six Flags on Saturday and to the beach on Sunday. I had such a great time, couldn't have wished for it to be better. My first class was Sociology of Morality, I think it was my favorite. I loved my instructor and classmates, they were great. I learned the difference between what is good, evil, right, and wrong. My other class, Personality + Behavioral Psychology, I learned a lot about a persons growth development. I learned how they are raised and how their encounters with different people affect them later on in life. A lot happened to me during Explo, one thing that is very important and I will never forget is the advice I got on the last day by my Sociology instructor. He said no matter what problems you may face now, there's always someone who has faced more problems than you. One thing that will always remain with me from that class is how to live a good life. Attending Explo has made me want to improve in my academics and travel a lot more. I would love to return next year, especially with my friends. I would definitely recommend Explo to any of my friends, it was a great experience for me and I'm sad it's over. There were many hot summer days there and I wasn't used to it. We had water balloon fights to keep us cool. Thanks for the great experience!
I think I am mostly excited about taking fun psychology and different summer classes at Yale. Going to Yale will have me experience life on a college campus, it will be exciting. I’ll have the chance to meet new people and it’s the perfect place for me to truly experience college life. The goals in which I have set for myself while attending this program are to have fun and learn new things. I’m nervous about being so far away from my family for 3 weeks. I already know I’ll miss my brother and pet dog, Fluffy, the most. I think making friends will be a challenge. I am a shy person and it’s difficult for me to make friends sometimes. I’ve been told I have a bubbly personality, which is good, so people tend to enjoy having me around. I’ll overcome this by being nice, respectful, and caring to everyone around me.
Thank you so much for your support! I appreciate you helping me fund my summer program, Explo 360. Without the kindness and generosity of you, I wouldn't be able to go and have a great summer. Your donation will help me greatly in becoming more prepared for what college life will be like. You've helped a ton. Thank you.
