Brinell's Story

My passion is helping people.

My younger cousin was born early because of the impact of a car accident. Since she was born early, she wasn’t able to fully develop. She couldn’t eat like everyone else, walk, much less talk. When I got older, I learned to love and take care of her. Her mother would ask me to babysit when no one was there to babysit her. I cared for her as I should because she is family. Since I have a unique person in my family who holds a special place in my heart, helping unique people who are rejected by society is something that I like to do and that I feel passionate about.

The National Youth Leadership Forum connects to my passion because being a part of the medical field requires helping and taking care of other people. I will take part in emergency medical training simulation, and NYLF also works closely with prestigious and technologically-advanced hospitals to ensure that students are receiving top education. It is important for me to have this opportunity now because the program mirrors the life a medical student allowing me to receive an early experience.

A Note from Mrs. Gallego-Taveras, Brinell's Teacher

I taught Brinell in her 8th grade year. She is incredibly focused and hardworking. She takes pride in her work and holds herself accountable for her academic success. She is incredibly goal-oriented and driven. Although our school did not offer many extracurricular opportunities she often talked about maintaining a high grade point average in order to achieve future goals. I wholeheartedly believe that she will invest all of the time and effort required of this program. This program would give her the chance to shine and get a head start on her future.
