Zanaya's Story

My passion is writing.

In middle school, I was obligated to bring a book to class in case my classwork was finished early. I read a range of books and thought "I want to do that someday." Writing was always my favorite subject and I believed that I needed to do what I love. I continue to write short stories. I love pouring my thoughts, feelings, and ideas into a creative piece of text. With the help of my English and literacy teachers, my writing has improved along with my passion for writing.

I believe that attending Smith's College's Young Women's Writing Workshop will help me explore my passion by giving me the opportunity to improve and strengthen my writing skills. The professors at the college are all published writers and poets, and I believe that their accomplishments will help me. The writing workshop will also give me a better idea of the meaning of writing and what it means to the other students.

"Zanaya is an excellent candidate for Smith College's Young Women's Writing Workshop because she is creative, hardworking, and truly desires to be a writer. Zanaya's creativity is displayed often in her work; she will take a writing assignment as an opportunity to practice her skills whenever possible. A simple task to write a short scenario became a well-developed scenario that left her peer's in awe of how intriguing it was.

Additionally, Zanaya truly desires to be a writer. Working with published writers will give Zanaya the opportunity to flourish in her creative writing abilities. The workshop would give Zanaya the opportunity to immerse herself in writing and strengthen her skills."
