My passion is art.
Spanish is my first language, and as I broadened my English, my dad told me to only speak Spanish at home. As a result, I was always behind in reading and writing because it was difficult to learn two languages at once. Today, I love writing because it allows me to express myself and release my anger and fear. Still, it is hard for me to explain in writing all of the concepts that I want the reader to recognize. Art is a whole different world; it is a visual journey where the artist can explore the meaning of patterns and the complexity of shapes and colors. This takes time because the goal is not only to impress the viewer but to fully mark them with an idea.
Attending Summer Institutes at Saint Joseph's College will allow me to strengthen my understanding of people's opinions about art. In order to disagree with someone's opinion, one must understand their reasoning. This program will allow me to discuss important topics with other people. Additionally, it will force me to step out of my comfort zone and push myself so that people understand my thinking.
"It gives me immense pleasure to refer Dulce, whom I have known for the last four years as a volunteer at my parish. I can truthfully state that Dulce is an extraordinary person: intelligent, mature and really responsible. She has helped with many different activities at our parish, and I can truly say that she has done an exceptional job.
Dulce has outstanding intellectual ability and strong leadership qualities, which will allow her to be successful at Summer Institutes at Saint Joseph's College. She will take advantage of this opportunity and share her abilities with others."
Psychology might be my life, the class was very interesting and I simply fell in love with it. We were a small class, and I was glad to understand everything! I was unsure about whether to focus on forensics or psychology, and I know now what I want to do. Thank you for the opportunity to discover what will make me happy. I didn't mind the long transportation once I felt the peace of arriving in Brooklyn. To get to know the people there was very interesting, I had a chance to improve my social skills. I fell in love with the city, the food, and the people. I was glad to read the newspaper every day on the subway and enjoy the madness of the World Trade Center in the morning because the classes were amazing. Thank you Wishbone again for trusting me and giving me a key to my future and my happiness.
I want to thank all the people who donated to my program, especially to the college itself, for not only providing me an opportunity to grow as a person, but believing in me. I appreciate everything you've done because it motivates me to work hard and push myself as a person and step out of my comfort zone. I'm exited to meet new people and to enjoy every moment at the program. Huge thanks to this program, it has been like "bendicion," which in English means a "blessing" in my life.
Hello my name is Dulce Gomez and I'm Mexican American. I have lived in this country for about 15 years and appreciate every opportunity the it has given to me including this one. Words can not explain all the emotion that I received when I got the email of acceptance. I want to thank the Wishbone organization because they believed in me, and supported my goal. Thanks to them and all the donations not only will able to go to a great summer program but it will allow me to achieve my goal of learning, sharing and educating in my community. This program will allow me to express myself in the most beautiful way I believe and that is trough writing.
