Nikita's Story

My passion for medicine was a result of losing my father. He was the victim of a horrible murder, and by the time he reached the hospital, there was little that could be done to save his life. Even though I was only six years old, I started questioning how medicine or fast thinking could have saved him. My passion became a goal, and I want to fully pursue becoming a surgeon. I want to help people remain healthy and active, and when tragedy strikes, I want to give them the best chance at survival.

Envision NYLF Medicine will help me pursue my passion because it will give me the once in a life time experience for hands on learning. I will better understand how to problem solve and think critically, and I will have the chance to set goals for myself. I want to know what it will take succeed in medical school, my residency, and my eventual career.

A Note from Ms. Schneider, Nikita's Teacher

Nikita has been a student of mine for the past two years, and is one of the most driven students I have seen. Nikita is a big self advocate and very motivated. Nikita has filled her work load with classes that have to do with nursing, and has even taken taken some classes for college credit. She is a hardworking and determined student. She not only excels in the classroom but is also a great role model to her peers. She never lets others pressure her into beliefs or do things she doesn't want to do; Nikita is very head strong. I think Nikita will benefit greatly from this program because she will work as hard as she can to accomplish her goals.

Thank you so much~

While at this program, I was able to get a better understanding of the medical careers and what would be required of me to make it a reality in my own life. I was able to visit Harvard Medical school, Pro EMS simulation center, learn about patient history, disaster triage, how to treat a hemorrhage, suture, draw blood, and many more procedures. This experience allowed me to work on my public speaking and communication skills while learning about leadership in the medical field. This has truly changed me for the better and have given me some insight within what I will be pursuing as I head off to college next year. I want to thank all my donors and wishbone for helping fund me and allowing me to go to NYLF Medicine.

Why I chose to attend Envision NYLF Medicine

I can not say how thankful I am that you chose to donate to me. I am so excited to attend this program to eventually pursue a career in the medical field. Medicine has been a passion of mine for a while now. This passion of mine was born when I was only seven years old after my dad passed away. When I was seven years old my father was murdered, he was beat repeatedly in his head with a gun. He ended up brain dead and was not able to come back from it. This inspired me to want to be a surgeon to help the people that can not help themselves. I can not wait to attend and can not thank you anymore.
