My passion is to become a pediatrician.
On July 5, 2010, my little sister was born and spent two months at New York Presbyterian Hospital. The workers there cared for their patients like their own children. That summer, I realized being a pediatrician is what I really want to be. Being able to spend my whole day with kids who need my help is something I would enjoy doing.
Attending Summer Institutes at Saint Joseph's College would help me learn basic information to get me started on fulfilling my passion. Being a part of this program will allow me to learn from professionals and receive advice about becoming a pediatrician.
"Nayeli would greatly benefit from participating in Summer Institutes at Saint Joseph's College because she has a genuine interest in the medical field. She is truly committed to helping others and is constantly questioning how things work behind the scenes. This program would also push her out of her comfort zone in a positive way, as she would be experiencing a new city and would be surrounded by students with similar interests."
The week of July 20th - July 24th, I was at a Forensics Class taken place at St. Josephs College. The program was nothing like I expected. I thought the class would have be hard and not related to my favorite tv show Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, but I was wrong. The very first day we learned about fingerprints and how important they are when trying to solve a case. Not only fingerprints, but footwear and all other tools used at a crime scene such as hair, fibers, and fluids. Not only did we learn, but we experienced how to do it using tools in the lab. Throughout the week, we watched Law and Order: SVU, Forensic Files, and Catching Killers, which all had a different perspective on forensics but were related in a way. As a trip, we went to The Criminal Supreme Court, which was very interesting. We learned about all the different supreme courts and we were able to watch a trial on attempted robbery. In our forensics class, we also had two different crime scenes in which we used everything we learned from the week to solve the crimes. Overall, I'm glad I got to spend a week at St. Josephs college with a great group of staff and student, it was such an awesome experience that I will never forget.
