Lisa's Story

My passion is fashion.

As a kid, I went to the 99 cents store assuming it would be just as good as a fabric store and made a dress out of the materials all by myself. Of course, it wasn't perfect, but it came out way better then expected. In 9th grade, I really started thinking about pursuing a career in fashion. Mrs. Mota, my art teacher, helped contribute to my passion because she informed me that if I wanted to do fashion I would need art to get there, and she helped me every step of the way.

Attending FIT High School Summer Live will help me explore my passion by not only helping me with fashion but allowing me to communicate with over 2,000 students from across the globe to prepare ourselves for college. FIT Summer Live will allow me to get hands-on activities and see if this is the actual career I would like to pursue. My current school does not have a separate fashion design program, so I am unable to experience the fashion industry. So, this program will make sure that I receive all the knowledge I need.

A Note from Mrs. Mota, Lisa's Teacher

"Lisa embodies fashion. Her entire focus is on her pursuit of a career in fashion. From the way in which she styles herself, to the manner in which she addresses color and pattern in her artwork, Lisa is a fashion designer through and through.

As a young artist, Lisa does not have experience sewing. As the only art teacher, with limited sewing ability myself, I am not equipped to teach Lisa the in and outs of sewing and creating clothing. I swore to Lisa, that because she is so passionate and motivated, that I would find her a program for her to learn how to sew."
