Carlos's Story

My passion is Game Design.

I discovered I had a passion for Game Design when I was given my first PlayStation. I immediately became interested in wanting to know more. My curiosity to explore and understand the technology behind the games I play has always grown overtime. I've learned that the gaming world is a multi-billion dollar industry and I want a piece of it beyond sitting in front of my television! It amazes me how this industry is always flourishing with new systems debuted almost every year. I am willing to prepare myself and dedicate 100% of my time to this program if chosen. When I think about gaming, I think about having fun but I also think about the possibility of having a career in this business one day. Being successful is about enjoying what you do and I look forward to achieving this goal.

Attending Centenary Summer Scholars will help me pursue my passion for Game Design. This program will allow me to socialize and interact with students who share the same interest as me. Being able to have the experience of living on campus will also be a rewarding one where I can become independent. I am sure this experience would be one that I will never forget because of the knowledge I will gain throughout this summer program. If given this opportunity, I will be very grateful and will take advantage of being around individuals who have experience in the field of Game Design and look forward to creating these relationships as a foundation for my career and network.

A Note from Mr. Infante, Carlos's Teacher

Carlos is your average teenager in many ways. What distinguishes Carlos is his focus. His knowledge of self and life-goals have narrowed his "five year plan." In other words, he knows he wants to attend Centenary Summer Scholars in July of 2018, knows he wants to go to a college and study graphic design while doing a related internship and intends on becoming a professional in the field. Carlos is the perfect candidate for the Centenary Summer Scholars as he helps fulfill the goal of attracting a diversity of students. His presence will enrich the program in general and other students in particular as he brings with him a perspective teenagers from across the country and the world would appreciate and reciprocate. The Centenary Summer Scholars program will give the Carlos the chance of experiencing life as a college student in a different state. It's one thing to hear the out of state college experience and it's another to be the first in your family to experience and in turn becoming an example for others in your community. This experience will help Carlos transition from the high school to college experience.

Preparing for Centenary Summer Scholars

In preparation for my summer program at Centenary University, my family and I attended an open house. I was given a small tour of the dorms I will be staying in. I also saw the dining hall, gym facility, the pool, and even went to the actual classrooms where the computer programming and game design lectures will take place. It is a small university and everything seems nearby compared to other out of state colleges I have visited. I really liked that everything was close and it is probably very hard to get lost. Although I am a little nervous about being so far away from my family, I know I will enjoy this great opportunity that I have been given. Thank you so much for making my summer at Centenary Summer Scholars possible!
