Shavonnie's Story

My passion is culinary arts.

I discovered my passion for the culinary arts by taking care of my family. When I was young I loved to emulate my mother. I was her shadow, and so everywhere she went and everything she did I followed. This desire continued into the kitchen. My mother constantly tried to resist me, believing that the kitchen was unsafe for a child. My insistence never wavered. I had my mind set on learning how to cook. I began cooking by myself at the age of ten and my love continued from there. I love the culinary arts because it stands for family and love and happiness, all things that I support.

I have been cooking for seven years but studying the culinary arts all of my life. I have been able to develop skills, techniques, and flavors that will aid in my goal to become a chef. Though I am proud of my abilities, I feel as if being a part of this program will help me expose myself to new dishes and methods of cooking that will help me to cultivate my culinary talents. The CampusNYC Culinary Arts Summer Program will mold me into a better and more confident chef.

A Note from Mrs. Lidofsky, Shavonnie's Counselor

"Shavonnie‰ has participated in programs to learn more about hospitality and culinary arts, fields in which she has a long-standing interest. One of the reasons she identifies is that she enjoys taking care of people. Shavonnie feels a strong sense of responsibility to support her family and has taken an entrepreneurial approach finding industrious ways of making her own money.

Shavonnie has always used cooking as a way of expressing herself. She has used cooking as a way to care for her family members the best that she can. She hopes to channel that love to customers in the future through a career in culinary arts or hospitality."

Making Memories at Campus NYC Culinary Arts Program!

I am so excited to attend the Campus NYC Culinary Arts Program! I'm really happy that I'm going to have this amazing experience this summer. I really appreciate all the people who helped me be able to do this. I am going to use this opportunity to develop my cooking skills. It will be cool to create new dishes for my family, and to one day create dishes for customers. This will be my first formal culinary arts experience, which will always be something that I hold dear to me. Everyone who donated helped to get me here and for that I am grateful.
