My passion is neuroscience.
The very first time I realized I had a passion for neuroscience was in middle school. Since then, I've participated in a chemistry program at Lehman Community college where I met neuroscience majors from different universities. Another moment I experienced was during my AP Environmental Science class when I watched a video about children in developing countries (such as India and Africa) who faced severe neurological deformities that could not be evaluated by a health professional simply because of their families' financial problems. Being a pediatric neurosurgeon will provide me with the knowledge and ability to help save lives which will be one step closer to making the world a little better.
The opportunity to spend two weeks in a medical environment at NSLC Psychology and Neuroscience will prepare me to be a step ahead when I'm in college. This program will be my first true trial of whether or not I really belong in this field, and it will seal the envelope on my decision to pursue my passion of neuroscience and become the neurosurgeon I aspire to be.

Our limited resources at school provide no opportunities for Dennique to explore her neuroscience interests, so the hands-on experience that this program can offer would be a significant way to help Dennique achieve her goals of majoring in one of these subjects, getting a graduate degree, and then serving communities that need her support.
While Dennique and I were exploring programs together, she kept an open mind throughout the process but fell in love with this program the moment she read through the description. The NSLC Psychology and Neuroscience experience is perfectly aligned with Dennique's ambitions."
Spending the week at American University was an experience that I cannot completely put into words. This trip opened my eyes to so many things and it was a week filled with new knowledge. It gave me the opportunity to completely make the decision that pediatric neurology is the field that I definitely want to pursue while in college. I could not have done it without your help and I am more than thankful that you helped me get this opportunity. Thank you!
