My passion is helping others and discovering new things.
To be honest I don't know how I discovered my passion. I think it's because I didn't really have someone to be there for me when I needed when I was a kid. When I met my best friend in the sixth grade, and we would help each other out and care for each other, I realized how much that meant to me. Ever since then I would help people out, motivate them when they felt worthless in a situation or just needed some advice. Ever since then when I would have a group of kids I had to take care of or meet like in the club. At my school I'm a intern, I have to show kids about my school but when I have my group of kids and I get to know them, we have our fun. We talk about the real life we will experience and I feel good about my self because when those kids leave the room they look up to me as a leader and as helper. I love that feeling .
The NTLP Program will help me out with my passion because as I said before i didn't really have a older a person, leader to go to for advice or for motivation. I want learn more about how to be a leader so kids that are in my position won't feel alone and like there's nobody to go to. I can be a people person and this will be a great three day experience for me to get to know people more and even maybe myself.
In my class and through conferencing in advisory, I know that Jasmine is really interested in music, art, and other elements of culture. She always shows great interest in my world history class as we cover different regions of the world. At our small school we have very few electives to offer and very few avenues for her to further her passion in the school context. I also know that, because of her family situation and budget she has not been able to travel much. Most of her exploration of various cultures has happened on her own and on her own time.
Hi Jasmine - I was moved, and saddened, by your story and how you felt that you didn't have older people in your life who believed in you. I love that this desire to help others is how you're redeeming that story. I hope you can sense that you DO have people who are rooting you on as your pursue this dream!
