My passion is helping people.
My mother was in foster care for most of her childhood. When she was in the Project Return Program, she met a woman named Theresa Roth. Theresa was a psychologist who also worked with Project Return as one of their Advisory Staff Members. My mother used to have anxiety and other personal issues but with Theresa's help, she's been able to cope and live life easier, and I want to do the same for people one day.
I have used sites such as "Naviance" to understand what psychologists do, what they study, how many years of schooling they needed, and I even tried to take Psychology as a sophomore (which is a Junior/Senior course). But, I still have this urge to be more hands on, and learn more than from just reading from a computer screen. I want to get a better peek at what the world of psychology has to offer, and I want to take it all in so I'm a little more ahead of others on the same path.
"Myra has expressed her interest in psychology and has shared her excitement about the possibility of participating in the program via Wishbone. She wants to experience a college campus and she is more than willing to give up three weeks of her summer to have the opportunity to learn more about her potential career choice.
More specifically, she is very interested in psychology because of an experience that her mother shared with her and situations that she has experienced firsthand. Myra has witnessed how much help her mother has received from a psychologist. Because of the significant impact that this psychologist has had on her mother, and subsequently on Myra's family, she wants to take steps to be on a similar career path. It is important to Myra that she is able to help people and make positive changes in their life."
For a while now I've been invested in a line of careers that include psychology. This opportunity is not only going to give me more insight into what psychology means but introduce me to other people who are interested in the same line of work or same interests as me.
I'm just so happy for this great opportunity that Wishbone and my donors have provided me with. I'm very happy knowing that this gives me an upper-hand for when I'm majoring in Psychology in a few years.
