Humberto's Story

My passion is baseball.

Baseball became my passion when I started playing for my first team last year. The most important thing I learned was to have fun with the game, even if you win or lose. I fell in love with the sport and I felt that I had to get better in every aspect of the game. It became more than a game, it became a passion.

I will develop my passion by attending Nike Baseball camp and working my hardest to improve my performance. I think Nike Baseball Camp has what I need to improve my skills in the sport of baseball.

A Note from Mr. Perkins, Humberto's Teacher

"Humberto is an excellent candidate for Wishbone and Nike Baseball Camp. Humberto is a model student who currently holds a 3.6 GPA. In talking with Humberto's teachers, they report back that he is an excellent student who they love having in their classes. Among my advisees, Humberto stands out as a young man who is focused and doing all the right things academically. However, in a recent meeting with Humberto, we discussed extracurriculars and summer programs as an area where Humberto can better distinguish himself as a future college applicant. Humberto is quiet and soft-spoken, so a summer opportunity could push him outside his comfort zone. A summer opportunity like Wishbone would help Humberto continue to build confidence so he can succeed as a high school and then college student."

My experience at Nike baseball camp at Cal

My experience at the Nike camp at Cal went well and was really fun. I worked on all aspects of the game, including my hitting, defense, and also the mental side of baseball. I really enjoyed it and met a lot of good people there. I think I got better and I also know the game better. I would like to thank the people who made this happen, because I really did enjoy it. Thank you!

Excited for baseball at UC Berkeley

This year, I learned many things and experienced some obstacles. For example, it was hard for me keeping up with my algebra class because of leaving class a lot for baseball games. Although this has set me back a little bit, I am getting back on track and I won't let this stop me from doing the best I can in class. I am excited about attending this program because I can't wait to get back on the field, especially at UC Berkeley. This program will affect me positively in many ways, and it will definitely improve my game on the field.

Thank you to everyone who donated to help send Humberto to baseball camp. Humberto and I chatted today and he is thrilled about this special opportunity. I'm excited to see Humberto continue to develop into a confident young man. This experience at baseball camp will go a long way toward making that happen.
