My passion is nature, being outdoors and also staying active.
Ever since I was little I have never really liked being indoors. Whenever my mom could, she would take me to the park. As I became older my parents enrolled me in soccer and basketball; this helped my passion grow for staying active. However, my love for the outdoors developed over the years all thanks to my parents. My parents helped me develop my passion for the outdoors because they always took me camping and hiking. Especially during the summer there was never a time I was indoors, mostly because it was too hot, but also because my parents thought that I should stay active because that kept me healthy.
Attending the Squaw Valley Academy Summer School will help me explore my passion for the outdoors because as I read on the informative websites, there are various outdoor activities such as horseback riding, different lake activities, cycling, and many more. This program will also help with feeding my passion because throughout the summer there are many different activities not only in the Lake Tahoe region but also places I have never been to before such as Reno and Sacramento. This will help me get a feel of a different scenery and also meet new people who share the same passion as me.
Despite moving to the United States and learning a new language at the age of five, Brenda has been able to become a model student and a vital asset to the school community through her ability to adapt to new environments, form meaningful relationships, and demonstrate the tenacity needed to complete complex tasks.
Over the past year and a half, I have worked with Brenda in developing goals and action plans for each of her classes. Time and time again, she is able to clearly express those goals, why the goals are important to her, and complete and fulfill self-created action plans.
Brenda has the passion to attend a four year university after high school. I believe that with the right exposure and guidance to the world outside of her daily routines Brenda will receive the experiences need to be successful and meet her goal.
It would be great to see Brenda step out of her comfort zone and be surrounded by peers not from her background or local community. Squaw Valley Academy Summer School would be an eye opening experience to a world unknown to her and help Brenda envision a future for herself never thought possible.
This summer I went backpacking in the Sierra Nevada mountains for 2 weeks with the Outward Bound program. My time there was a very fun experience and I learned many things. I saw many beautiful views and enjoyed the challenge of climbing rigorous peaks. At the end of the day, I had a great sense of accomplishment and I am glad that I went.
Dear donors,
I am very grateful for you donation, and I am very excited to attend the program this summer.
