Jennifer's Story

My passion is helping others in innovate ways.

I have always had a natural instinct for helping people and learning about new ways to make this happen. For example, I spend my free time volunteering at the nearby animal shelter and at the homeless shelter, Saint Vincent de Paul. I enjoy volunteering because I've realized that interacting with both animals and people is an important way to help my community.

Attending NSLC Medicine & Healthcare will help me learn new things by attending lectures and participating in activities. This way, I can learn the different skills and processes that doctors and nurses need in order for them to become great helpers to those in need of their assistance.

A Note from Ms. Berg, Jennifer's Teacher

"Jennifer shows passion and persistence each week through Techbridge. We do a lot of activities where students are not given all the instructions and must figure things out for themselves. Jennifer takes on this challenge with a smile and good attitude, and is most often very successful.

Attending NSLC Medicine & Healthcare will give Jessica the knowledge and experience to decide what exactly she wants to do upon graduating from high school. As a low-income student in a high-poverty area, programs like NSLC Medicine & Healthcare are incredibly important opportunities, as they allow strong students like Jennifer to make valuable connections with other passionate students. Becoming a doctor requires making a lot of right decisions in the preparation stages, and as a first-generation college student, Jennifer will need all the information she can get to make all those right decisions."

My Experience at NSLC

This program was very interesting. It gave me the opportunity to strengthen my interest in becoming something in the medical field, potentially a nurse. I really enjoyed all the great activities that we did to diagnose patients. This helped me understand why doctors ask for their patients' medical history. Throughout this program, I also got the chance to meet great people who are interested in the same field as I am.

Before NSLC Medicine & Healthcare

Thinking about being part of NSCL makes me very exited because I am one step closer to achieving my goal of becoming someone in the medicine field. While being part of the NSCL program I will have the chance to collaborate with other people that have the same mind set as me. Some of my goals I hope to achieve are to learn more about the importance of science and be more independent and confident. An adversity I might face while being part of the NSCL program is to not be shy in front of people that I have never met before. I am really exited to be part of the NSLC program and I am looking forward to the classes and activities I will be taking part in. Once again, thank you to everyone who is helped me achieve my dream and for your donations. Without your help I would not be able to be part of this program.
