Cathioska's Story

My passion is writing.

This became my passion in the seventh grade. It was during English class that my teacher, Mr. Canlas, told us to write a short story describing a scene from the Holocaust. In five minutes, I wrote a page and half about a little Jewish girl watching her mother being taken away by the Nazi-German soldiers that worked for Adolf Hitler. When I shared my story out loud, I got lost in the story and realized my love for writing. As I've moved up in school, each year I've written a piece that was significant and meant a lot to me and my writing career.

Attending Summer Institutes at Saint Joseph's College is an opportunity for me to go to a college and learn more about writing.

I am excited at the possibility of Cathioska joining a program where she will be exposed to life outside of her experience. After attending a writing class in Brooklyn, thanks to Wishbone, I was able to see new writers on the rise. My classmates during that one week helped me realize that I am not the only one that decided to take a week from my summer to spend it with strangers. Thank you to EVERYONE that donated so I could enjoy an amazing week meeting people who are now friends.

Excited for Summer Institutes at Saint Joseph's College

Every summer since the summer before my first year of High School, I have either earned money through a program or participated in a program that kept my mind active. Communicating with people outside of my school helps me build people skills, something I am not very good at, and challenges me not to assume, letting words and actions speak for themselves. This week at St. Joseph will be one of the most memorable programs. Although it's only a week, studying at a college at my age will leave a mark on my life. Knowing I was able to raise $550 proves that it was meant to be, and that other people who were kind enough to realize my passion knew this experience will be an amazing one. Thank you to my donors and supporters!
