Doran's Story

My passion is basketball.
Growing up, I played multiple sports, including soccer, football, and even skating. However, playing basketball kept me motivated. I did not know how to express my feelings until I started playing basketball. I feel like I'm able to be me and connect to others more. Words can't describe how happy I am in finding my love for basketball because it opened a whole new life for me and my family. To sum this all up, ball is life and thank you for the opportunity.

Attending PGC Playmaker College ll can teach me the importance of being a young black man and basketball player. Since it is away from my home in Brooklyn, I can meet different types of players and people and explore the outside world for me.

A Note from Mr. Frick, Doran's Teacher

Doran is passionate about basketball, and because of that he takes advantage of everything that is available to him at our small school: he plays on the team, attends conditioning sessions both after school and on weekends, and takes advantage of any open gym time to scrimmage and get pointers from older players and coaches who are available.

Doran will benefit from being able to get more nuanced training that will help him improve his overall game, but also from talking with coaches and learning about pathways to play basketball beyond high school.
