Martin's Story

I have fostered an interest in medicine and health ever since elementary school. I was fascinated by the magic of doctors and medicine; they seemed to be able to magically cure people of their sicknesses. Ever since then, I have wanted to learn this "magic" so I can cure people as well. This ties in with my aspiration of helping people fight poverty in my community. Many people may not be able to afford healthcare and medicines even if they need it; I can provide cheaper medical services to these people.

This program stands out to me because it will cover many fundamentals of medicine such as infectious diseases, biomedical research, etc. This program also includes field trips to hospitals; I have been curious about hospitals and how they function. Lastly, the program is located in San Francisco while other programs are out of state.

I have known Martin for two and half years, both as his cross country coach and as his chemistry teacher. Martin is an incredible student, and very involved in school. He will be great addition at any summer program. I recommend him with enthusiasm and confidence.

Excited to learn about the medical profession this summer

I am extremely excited about this experience. Not only do I get to meet new people, but I get to learn about the medical field. I also get the opportunity to learn about the lives of doctors, whom are people who devote their lives to helping others. My goal is to learn as much as possible and make new connections and friendships. I am somewhat nervous about meeting new people in a new environment; I most likely will not know anyone there, but I am confident that I will be able to overcome this. I might be challenged by the fact that I do not have much medical knowledge. To overcome this, I will ask the medical professionals clarifying questions to help me further my understanding.
