Aldair's Story

My passion is Sports.

Since I was like 6 years old I always have a passion for sports. The first sport I played was soccer and I played soccer for 3 years. When I was 10 years old I joined the baseball league of South Gate park and it went well for me. After 2 years of baseball, I played soccer at Rosevelt and Hawkins park. In my sophomore year of school, I started to watch football and play football after school with my friends. I'm currently running Student Run Los Angeles and I'm getting ready to run the Los Angeles marathon. In the last past months, I have discovered that I'm very passion about sports because I like to play different sports and being active.

Attending the Nike Football Camp will help me explore my passion in many ways. One way is that it would help me explore my passion is by giving me the opportunity to play a new sport and learn new skills. Also, it will help me stay active because football is all about being fit and active. Every sport I have played has involved team work and I love working as a team to get the job done. Football is sport about being working as a team and that's one thing I like about sports.

In life there's many obstacles we have to go through but we always have to find a way to overcome them. An obstacle I'm currently having is getting through high school without no guide and advice on what to do to be a successful student in high school to get into a good college. Since I'm going to be the first one in my family to attend college I have nobody to tell me what path to take or how to approach a certain objective. Even though I don't have the guidance I always ask questions and look for information to know what to do throughout high school to get into a good university. Asking questions and getting informed has slowly helped me overcome my obstacle.

A Note from Mr. Pickering, Aldair's Mentor

Aldair is has a passion for sports as he shared in his application. He also has a passion for education. Unfortunately, in South Los Angeles, the schools that provide comprehensive sports programs do not offer quality educational opportunities. Aldair has chosen to attend a small charter school that heavily emphasizes academics and a college going culture. We are unable to also provide much in the way of true athletics besides some small club teams. I respect Aldair for putting his education first. He has managed to stay active in community sports in spite of this choice which is also commendable.

Aldair will bring his passion and sportsmanship to Nike Football Camp this summer. He is a consummate team member in the classroom and on the field, I am confident he will be an asset to the coaches and campers alike. As a student who has not been able to participate in a true high school football team, this experience will be unique and valuable to Aldair. I am confident he will make the most of it.

Great Experience at the Nike Football Camp

I really had a great time at the Nike Football Camp this summer. Everyone at the camp was very friendly and helpful. I learned many new skills about football that I didn't know before. Also, the camp helped me learn how to manage my time. I met many new friends of all different ages. I really liked that the camp had someone that helped us get better if we were ill or injured throughout the camp. One thing that stood out about the camp was that they had a guest speaker that gave us good advice about life in general. I'm very thankful for being able to attend this camp.

The last day of the football camp was the day we showed our friends and family what we learned.

Excited for the Nike Football Camp

I'm really thankful once again for getting the opportunity to attend a football camp. I can't wait to learn new skills and to meet new people. I know many students don't get this opportunity and that's why I value so much that this opportunity was offered to me. I can't wait to attend the Nike Football Camp. Thank you to all the people that helped me make this possible.
