Samuel's Story

Ever since I fixed the wireless connection in my house, I knew I was going to be a technical engineer, if not a professional basketball player. When I first fixed the wireless connection, I started to fix computers and my video games. I wanted to learn more about technology and to do this, I will have to become a technical engineer. iD Tech Camps at New York University is one of the best recommended programs near where I live, and it will help me learn about the technical skills I am most interested in.

A Note from Emily Desprez, Samuel's Teacher

Samuel is hard working and diligent student. In order to excel academically, he has learned to persevere through challenges he faces both inside and outside of school. As Samuel's Algebra teacher, I assign him higher cognitive challenge problems often. He never gives up and continuously asks questions or tries a different method until he reaches a solution.

Samuel is very interested in STEM programs, activities, and future career possibilities. Participating in iD Tech Camp at NYU would be an amazing opportunity for Samuel to explore these potential pathways.

Finding my future at iD Tech Camp

On the first day, I was introduced to my group and we were able to get started on our projects right away. I also got to meet my group instructor and new friends. One thing that surprised me was how friendly the people were. I thought that they were going to be mean and unfriendly, but I was wrong.
During my Summer program, I learned how to create maps for the game Portal 2 and a little bit of Team Fortress 2.
Before I started this program, I wanted to be a video game designer.  This program has helped me build on my video game designing skills, which gets me one step closer in the designing world. I would most definitely recommend this program to other people because it is really fun and the people you get to work with are also super cool. This is an amazing program if you want to learn to be a video game designer. I would tell future students of this program to pay attention and always double-check their work. If you do not pay attention to small details, your whole map can be messed up and that is not enjoyable.
In the 3rd picture, I am in my created map, in Portal 2, and there are turrets that are about to kill me.
In the last picture, I am viewing my completed map in Portal 2.

Ready for my summer at iD Tech Camp

I am most excited about experiencing college life and exploring the topic I am most interested in which is technology and video game design. While I attend this program, the goal I have for myself is to do my best. When I am struggling with something I will reach out in order to get help and understand the material. Another goal I am setting for myself is to achieve. What I mean by that is that I am going to try and get the most I can  out of this program so that I can obtain a higher knowledge of my interest. I am most nervous about making new friends. I am usually the person that is not able to make friends as easy as other people so I am going to try and make new friends.  Thank you for helping me with this opportunity, I can't wait to get started.

Thank you

Thank you very deeply for giving me this opportunity to accomplish my passion that I've been dreaming about for years. Without your help and support, I probably would not be able to ever explore my passion for technology at New York University, one of the most famous and prestigious colleges in the country. Your support will help me achieve my dream and become more skilled in technology and game creating. Thank you again for your immense support that will guide one more step in the direction I want to go in order to become a video game designer.
