Judit's Story

My passion is criminal justice.

This became one of my passions because, as I was growing up, I saw that there were a lot of problems surrounding my community. This made me wonder how I, as such a young person, could help my community become a better place. Since then, criminal justice has been my passion.

By attending the Saint Rose Pre-College Summer Experience, I will be able to experience my passion first hand and get to know even more about the field. I will be able to meet real life forensic scientists and crime scene investigators and learn about the criminal mind. I will also be able to experience what college life will be like and learn how to better prepare for it in high school.

A Note from Ms. Curry, Judit's Mentor

"Judit has a clear passion for giving back to her community and being a model for future cohorts of students who aspire to go to college. Additionally, Judit is independent and adventurous. She would love to experience college life in a new and different place but has not had the means to do so before. This summer experience would give Judit an invaluable chance to see what it is like to live a 'college lifestyle' away from friends and family, which would be a powerful experience in informing her college application decisions."

My two week experience at Saint Rose

My two weeks at The Saint Rose Pre-College experience was great. I was able to meet awesome people who share a common interest with me. I was able to create unforgettable memories with all of these people through fun activities like laser tag, attending a play called "Dancing in the Rain," and going to a local restaurant to have dinner. The criminal justice course was very interesting; I got to see how crime scene investigators really work and learned that what I see on TV is so much different from how the crime scene investigators really work. One person that stood out to me was officer Lawrence, he was one of the guest speakers from a field trip that we took to the court house. Officer Lawrence was a regular police officer who was called to go undercover in Miami. After that, he went back to New York and continued as a police officer at the court house. He was then called to join the Marshalls and worked the recent prison break in New York. Officer Lawrence made it very clear what it took to become an officer and explained that the decisions we make today affect our future. I would like to thank every one who helped make this experience possible. This experience has opened up my eyes and allowed me to get a better idea of what I would like my future career to be.

Excited for Saint Rose PreCollege Experience

School is over, and I have finished my sophomore year. I was very pleased with how this year went. My frustration and hard work paid off; my goal was to finish this year with straight A's, and I was able to accomplish that. The date to leave my hometown and travel to Albany, New York to attend Saint Rose is very close. I am very excited and very fortunate to be able to have this experiences thanks to all the support and donations I have received . One thing that I am excited about is being able to receive more information about a topic that I hope to make a future career in. At the same time, I am very anxious about leaving home to an unknown place where I know no one. At the end, I am just very grateful to have been able to have this experience.
