My passion is liberal arts.
When I was in grade school, I was opinionated in a way that differed from the other children. They would have these non-intentionally sexist views and, even at a young age, I never agreed with them. One specific time, a boy yelled at me because I was playing the house wrong. According to him, I was supposed to stay in the house, cooking and cleaning the entire time. However, I refused and ended up "working a job as a construction builder" and "living independently in my own apartment." The rest of the children agreed with that boy, so I kept to myself and drew. It felt great to draw because I would forget about being lonely. Over time, I received praise for my art from other students. I liked this attention I got for my art, and with it, a new feeling of pride erupted inside of me.
Although I am relatively young, I want to become the best artist that I can possibly be. Cooper Union expects no less from those who participate in any pre-college programs that they offer. Their facilities are accessible, there is ample space for individuals to work, and they have talented and renowned instructors. It would the greatest joy in my life to attend Cooper Union as an undergraduate in the near future, however, before I can do that, I must work hard every day on my abilities as an artist.
"Mahnoor has been instrumental in the installation of the Annual Student Art Exhibit located at Kingsborough Community College's Art Gallery. Each year, she has recruited and organized students to help with the installation, and she has acted as a director of the installation, bringing materials, working all sessions, and arranging work into a sensible layout.
Mahnoor is a great candidate for the Summer Art Intensive Program because her dedication to the arts is the strongest I've seen in a student in my thirteen years of experience as an art teacher. Mahnoor's skills in drawing from observation will be refined by an intensive program such as Cooper Union's."
Dear supporters,
Thank you, again! The Cooper Union Pre-college Summer art program was more than I had ever hoped for. The amount of drawing we did was intense, and it was astonishing how much I have improved. It was also the greatest summer of my life. I loved the respect my instructors would give me, they always had feedback, and they were always approachable. I am grateful that I participated in this program. I met great people, saw beautiful art in notable museums, thought conceptually, and developed a more sophisticated art language, which is beneficial for critiques. I am also positive that The Cooper Union will be my first choice school this upcoming fall in regards to college applications. Thank you, the people who helped fund me, I have found more confidence in my artistic ability, and appreciation for what I still have to learn. Thank you so much!
With Regards,
Mahnoor
