Candaycea's Story

My passion is writing.

Attending Summer Institutes at Saint Joseph's College help develop my passion my teaching me new techniques to develop and enhance my creative writing skills. I will be able to learn different styles of writing and how they have different effects on readers. I will also lean how to better connect with the reader using my writing.

I want to be a part of the Wishbone community because it will give me a chance to develop relationships with others and expand my horizons. I will be able to overcome my fears knowing I am supported by others in the community.

The End of an Amazing Summer Program

I am very grateful to have had the chance to experience my summer program at St. Joseph’s College. I was given the chance to learn many interesting things, build new connections, and boost my confidence. During my first week at St. Joseph’s I attended the High School Writing class. There I learned new ways to analyze different pieces of work, such as poems and short stories. I also got the chance to share my voice during every discussion due to the small class size which allowed me to see how intelligent and thought provoking my comments can be. During my second and final week at my summer program, I joined Vet Science class. There, I learned about the difficult task it is to actually become a vet. I also I became aware of how important it is to study your animal, if you have a pet, to make sure they are always in the best of health as much of the time as possible. I also got to study how depression can lead to other health problems in my favorite animal, the ferret. The class also got to give a physical exam to a real dog named Choo Choo. Though I learned so much in those two weeks, I was also able to meet many different people from various backgrounds. I made many friends with classmates, but also the teachers, and camp counselors. I discovered that almost everyone at that camp had one thing in common, the desire to grow, not in their bodies but in their minds. The most important thing i learned from my summer program is that we all have the desire to learn.

Excited for Saint Joseph's College

There were many programs to choose from, including many fantastic opportunities to gain experience in a variety of fields. I decided to choose St. Joseph's College summer institute because it was where my heart was pulled to the most, and I believe that following your heart is the best way to reach your dreams. This program offers many classes that I am excited to take a part in. I am most looking forward to the high school writing class and veterinary science class. I have always loved to write, and I know attending this class will help me to become an even better writer. Animals also fill and place in my heart because I believe we are all equal, animals and humans alike. Understanding animals and how different species interact with the world is a way to connect with them on a deeper level, a level that maybe one day can allow even the scariest of species to live together in harmony. I know I will learn a lot, but I am positive I will have fun every step of the way. After all, what is more fun than learning something new! I can't wait to get started with this program.
