Omnri's Story

My passion is football.

I discovered my passion for football at 10 years old. I was watching some old video tapes of my father playing in his high school years, and I thought to myself "WOW, you can hit that hard?!" It was so fascinating seeing my dad run so fast around the field making plays, so I wanted to try it and I did. My first official football practice was August 18, 2015. It was extremely hard, I pushed my body to lengths that I never thought I could reach. After 2 long hot weeks of summer conditioning, it was finally the first day of pads which meant the first day of hitting. I was so excited for this day I absolutely couldn't wait to feel my first ever football hit, once I got to the field the and began hitting I fell in love with football.

A Note from Ms. Vitali, Omnri's Teacher

At High School in the Community, one of the main selling points of choosing our school over other public and magnet schools in the district is that the population is very small (under 300). This makes the school climate very intimate and individualized, especially compared to Wilbur Cross High School, which services easily over 1300 students. But to athletes like Omnri, this can serve as a disadvantage. High School in the Community doesn't have a range of sports teams. However, they are partnered with Wilbur Cross for students who still have interest in playing sports during their high school career. Several students have taken up this opportunity, including Omnri. During football season, practice is held every day after school. That forces Omnri to rush to his locker when the bell rings at 2:10 so that he can walk two miles to Cross and get dressed for practice by 3PM. This "ritual" would deter most students from participating in sports whatsoever. But Omnri clearly finds his commute to (and from) practice to be a worthy trade off, as this is his second year playing and he's already mentioned playing again in the fall.

My wonderful experience

This experience was absolutely amazing. I got the best coaching possible thanks to the wonderful and well experienced coaching staff. I showed my god given talents and some of the skill set I have learned during the end of camp scrimmage and I have a great chance of getting scouted for college. I am so thankful for this wonderful opportunity this summer. Thank you once again for everyone's love and support; I couldn't have made it without it.

Thank you everyone

I am going to be participating in the U.S summer contact football camp. I am really excited to be joining the program because it will give me the time to develop the skills I need to help make me into a great football player, bringing me to college and hopefully the NFL. I feel that in school, there aren't any opportunities to play football, so, for me, playing football for a school the is across town is the only way to do it. I think that this program will help me develop my skills and start to gain more leadership.

I am looking forward to playing and practicing with other people my age and sharing tecnequies and advice with one another to help better everyone's style. I chose this program because I have loved football ever since I was a little kid, and I constantly watch videos and lift wieghts to help me become stronger, physically and mentally. I believe that participating in this program will help me decide on whether I will go to NFL when I grow up or not.
