Andra's Story

My passion is medicine.

I discovered my passion for medicine as a young child watching baby deliveries with my grandmother on TV. I realized that I would like to be a midwife, and I haven't change my mind since then. As a seventeen-year-old now, I see how important people in this field of work are. I just love the fact that I could be one of those people who get to see the beauty of life.

Attending Centenary Summer Scholars will help me pursue my passion for medicine by the fact that they have all the courses I would need to take in college. I believe that being on this campus would help me find others who are interested in the same thing as I am and this would help me build relationships for the future.

Andra is a great candidate for Centenary Summer Scholars for a number of reasons. She is the type of scholar that would fully appreciate and maximize the opportunity to attend these summer classes. Andra, sadly, will not have any similar opportunities given a general lack of opportunity in the Hartford area. Andra's passion for medicine and ability to network both speak to why she should be accepted into this program. She is the type of scholar that lights up the room and includes everyone around her.

Post-Attendance Update

The program was interesting. I figured out that I'm not necessarily interested in doing veterinary science, which is something I know I won't waste time on in college because of this program. On the other hand, I had fun with the incredible people I met even though our time together was short. Thank you so much for letting me have this experience!

Pre-Attendance Update

I am going to be participating in the Pre-Med/Biology program this summer. I am really excited to be joining the program because it will give me experience before college on the courses I would like to take. I think that this program will help me further my knowledge in this course and help me explore my passion

I am looking forward to working with other people my age and sharing ideas and advice with one another. I chose this program because I have loved the idea of being in the medical field from the time I was two. I believe that participating in this program will help me decide on whether or not I want to major in biology or take a pre-med program when I attend college.
