My passion is understanding and interpreting the human mind.
I discovered this passion for wanting to understand how the human mind works through my mother - she has always said that I would be a great psychological consultant. This view has pushed me to enroll in the psychology course in an attempt to understand how the human mind works. I was interested in the biological level, but I felt that the psychological aspect would allow me to gain a better understanding of the psyche.
My passion to understand and interpret the human mind was intensified by my enrollment in psychology at my school. In psychology, we have gone over the various schools of thought within psychology. If I am granted the opportunity to attend the UConn Pre-College Summer: Sociology - Human Behavior course I would be able to understand the human psyche on a deeper and more specific level.
"Joel is passionate social justice. Coming from South Africa as an immigrant, where his family suffered under apartheid, he has a unique perspective on inequality in the world. His interests in the human psyche have led him to consider a career in human psychology.
Gaining admittance to the UConn Pre-College Summer: Sociology - Human Behavior program will expose Joel to academic work in the field at the highest levels. It is also critical for Joel, as a high school junior, to begin experiencing life and academics on a college campus. The UConn program will provide Joel with the scaffolding necessary for him to evaluate and seriously consider engaging in deeper investigations in his college career."
