Brent's Story

My passion is music.

I used to sing a lot, but I stopped before I started junior high. However, I still had that connection to music, so I started wearing headphones to school. Chances are that you would see me with headphones almost all the time. Then I decided to join the music production club at my school. With the right guidance, I was able to understand the basics of making a beat through GarageBand. My school has a connection to the Ed Sullivan Fellowship at NYU in Manhattan. I decided to go and I have been attending this program for almost every weekend. Music production reconnected me to my passion, music. I started singing again and I have a better attitude about life overall. I've learned that it's important to continue what you love to do.

Although I know the basics of making a beat, I don't know much about mixing and mastering. I believe that this program will give me a head start on this problem. I can learn the structure of a music studio with hands-on activities. This program can also show me the college experience since we will be on campus. Music has become one of the biggest parts of my life between school and home. I want music production to be my dream job and I want to connect with so many aspiring artists from around the country. However, if I don't know anything about mixing and mastering, then my dream job can go out the window. I am a fast learner but I feel that attending the Ithaca Summer College One Week will give me a deeper understanding of making a beat.
