My passion is engineering.
I have always loved exploring; whether it is new cultures and languages, or looking under the toaster to see how the parts fit together. I enjoy solving problems, setting goals for myself, and building systems and tools to overcome obstacles. One goal that I have set for myself is to become the first female engineer in my family. I think with the right education and support, I can make this goal a reality.
By attending the Envision NYLF Engineering and Technology program, I will have the chance to receive that education. I would not be able to attend this program on my own, and would miss out on the real world lessons, hands on activities, and overall amazing experience that will prepare me for college. I think this program will be the launch pad I need to reach the goals I have set for myself.
I've never seen a student at her age to be so committed and determined to achieve her goals. In addition, her tenacity to overcome all her adversities is laudable in many ways. I believe that Kena is the perfect candidate for this program, and your support will have a life-changing impact on her.
I have just recently completed the NYLF Engineering and Technology Program at Olin College of Engineering. It was a wonderful experience that I would recommend to anyone who is interested in pursuing Engineering in the future. The program gave me a taste of how an Engineer would think when solving problems. During the program, we had multiple workshops where worked in groups in order to complete a task, which allowed us to get used to working with other people and even network with those who lived farther away. Although it was a very short period of time it was an experience that I would gladly do again.
In order to prepare, I have already submitted many of the forms needed to attend the program. There are still a few requirements that I am aware of, but all in all, everything is set and prepared for. I'm excited for the summer!
