Rackean's Story

My passion is Basketball.

I discovered my passion at age 1. It was my first birthday and my parents had gotten a miniature basketball hoop and a ball. I can imagine how ecstatic I was as I was able to dunk for the first time. My first words ever were mama and dada, but shortly after that my vocabulary mainly consisted of basketball terms such as “swish” and “for three." Influenced by my father, I quickly became a Celtics fan and tried to get a consistent shot like Ray Allen. As I continued to develop my skill, I found out that I rather liked Jamal Crawford and Derrick Rose instead of Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo. This led me to emulate these players in my style of play.

By attending the Nike Basketball Camp, my skills will be extremely enhanced because of the credibility of Nike. Nike is very involved in athletics, especially with basketball. This is the exact reason why I would like to go to the Nike Basketball Day Camp. The location in Manhattan is extremely convenient, and I know that my skills would be enhanced and new potential would be uncovered. This potential might even lead me to stand out on the school team, taking me (and my basketball ability) to new heights.

A Note from Mr. Cassidy, Rackean's Teacher

Rackean is a great candidate for Nike Basketball Camp because he will show his best everyday. He will not be the best basketball player at the camp. However, he will be on time, work as hard as he can, be respectful to all adults and be a good teammate on a daily basis. I certainly expect that Rackean will sharpen his basketball skills as a result of the excellent coaching at the camp, but I also think his character will continue to develop as a result of the effort and teamwork required at such a camp.
