Khoi's Story

Attending Honor Code! U.S. Military Academy Camp will help me develop my passion because it is an excellent experience to practice my leadership skills. West Point will help develop my skills intellectually, physically, militarily, ethically, spiritually and socially. Additionally, I will be taught how to be courageous and disciplined. Finally, the leadership skills that I will absorb at West Point will allow me to continue to inspire others.

I look up to the people who have graduated from an academy as prestigious as West Point Academy, and I hope to follow in their footsteps. Their own personal sacrifice and unmitigated generosity demonstrate the true spirit of the people who call the U.S. home. This is why Honor Code! U.S. Military Academy Camp is an awesome program and a lever that will help me begin a journey to become a leader, just like our American soldiers.

I come from Vietnam and have been living in San Jose for about two and half years. My biggest obstacle that I have faced is learning the English language and assimilating to American culture. However, I never gave up on what I was doing. I started practicing writing essays, reading books, and speaking in public. We only have two choices: let people shut us down or prove them wrong. For me, I chose to prove them wrong.

A Note from Ms. Meheula, Khoi's Teacher

"What I find most refreshing about Khoi is that he so deeply appreciates the chance to attend a summer program geared around the US Military. His family has gone through so much to be in the United States, and he does not take this for granted. He admires the work our military does around the world, and he has the resilience and motivation required to participate in such a rigorous program. He sees opportunities like this as a ticket to a better life, and he speaks of success as a plan, not just a distant dream. By participating in this program, he will be able to fine tune his leadership skills and have a taste of US Military life.

Khoi's passion, energy, and extreme determination are infectious. I have never seen a young person draw such respect and admiration. His sense of pride in his heritage and in his new country is inspiring. I present Khoi with my highest recommendations."

My Life-Changing Summer at West Point Military Academy

First of all, I would like to say thank you again to the Wishbone team and my donors. I want to express how appreciative I am for the opportunity to have such a brilliant life-changing experience at West Point Military Academy. Even though the camp only lasted for a week, I made myself some buddies for life. I didn’t imagine myself missing them so much. Since the first day I saw them, I knew that we were going to get along, but I’m not surprised we did since we all had similar goals and aspirations. The relationships we built at the camp were true to the core and have helped me in a way I cannot count. My group had 20 members, and every single one of us brought to the camp our own fascinating stories from all around the United States.

There is something very special about this camp. The whole point of this camp is not just about helping us prepare, apply and get into West Point, but it’s also about family and team work. Each of us is viewed as a unique person with irreplaceable experiences, points of view, knowledge and talents to contribute. Some of the activities we did were participated in class sessions that taught me skills such as leadership and teamwork, and visited New York City. In our last day, we took a Physical Training Test, which I really loved. It helped us determine our strengths and weaknesses.

I went to the camp with an open mind and came back with a higher level of motivation to become a person who can inspire others. Having a tour around an academy as prominent as West Point Military Academy and getting to see our majestic, admirable cadets marching in the campus was super amazing and unforgettable.

Three Weeks Away From Camp!

I already booked my plane ticket to my summer program, Honor Code! I am very excited and nervous at the same time because this is my first time going on the plane alone. Also, I am finally a senior! This summer will keep me busy because I will be working and preparing for the SAT.

Thank you so much for making my dream happen. I would not be able to this without your donation and your support. I can't wait!!

Khoi you are such an intelligent, kind, and honest young man. You always ask if there is something you can help with especially when you see me arrive at school with heavy bags. Khoi you have an infectious smile that makes me smile back even when I'm having a tough day. You are so motivated to keep doing better in what ever you do, stay that way. You really do have a second family here at LPS school. Best wishes
