My passion is volleyball.
Since childhood, I've always been athletic and a little hard headed. I enjoyed climbing things, jumping on things, and just running around a lot more than the average child. When I entered school, the only way I would play sports was during gym class. We played a variety of things such as baseball, basketball, and soccer but one day our coach decided on volleyball. When he showed us the dynamics of the sport, the different positions and how its played, I fell in love and wanted to play every chance I got. Soon volleyball was what made me happy when I was upset and became a kind of escape for me. Upon entering high school I joined the volleyball team in an effort to improve myself.
Nike Volleyball Camp will help me explore this passion because it will open me to a different environment. Being with girls completely different from my team will help me become more adaptable to different skill sets. Also, it'll help me improve my own skills and become a better volleyball player for the competitive season. The camp will help me find a position that will suit me on the court and will make me less nervous and more focused. Furthermore, I'll grow as a person after going through the experience of meeting different coaches and different teammates.
Anya has been on the high school girl's volleyball team for the past two years. She joined us when we were first developing the team and had a severe lack of equipment. Even still, Anya came every day with a big smile on her face, ready to do any physical exercises or activities that I planned without equipment. Due to Anya's genuine passion for volleyball, and fun and loving personality, she rose up very quickly as a leader on our team. She uses her calm personality to not only encourage her teammates, but also to help build the team. When the team was suspended because of a lack of funding last year, Anya and her friend created a petition to get the volleyball team up and running that she presented to the principal of our school. It was very evident that Anya was willing to do anything and everything for volleyball!
Anya would be an excellent candidate for the Nike Volleyball Camp because she is a kind, hard-working player with unbelievable drive. Based on how Anya practices during volleyball practices, she is ready to be pushed and to soak in any advice that will help build her skill level and character on the team.
The Nike Volleyball Camp was incredible! It was difficult for me to adjust at first because it was my first time going to camp and being away from home. However, going to camp gave me a college experience. I shared a dorm room with two other girls my age, and had to be up super early to start the day. The girls and the coaches were so friendly and helpful and the team building activities we did help strengthen groups as actual volleyball teams. I improved my skills so much in those 4 days and it couldn't be without Wishbone. It was truly an unforgettable summer.
